This assessment is provided exclusively to individuals who have committed a driving offence and are currently subject to court proceedings. It is designed to support judicial decision-making by offering a structured, offence-specific evaluation of driving behaviour, judgement, and risk awareness.
The Driver Risk & Decision-Making Assessment is delivered in conjunction with, or as a standalone supplement to, the Drive Aware Programme where appropriate. It combines a structured classroom-based or online session, an individual on-road driving assessment, and a comprehensive written report prepared for court and professional use.
A core element of this assessment is that the on-road component takes place at, or in the immediate vicinity of, the location of the offence before the court.
This ensures the assessment is conducted within the same road environment, traffic conditions, and decision-making context relevant to the offence, allowing for a more accurate and meaningful evaluation of the behaviour that led to prosecution.

Structure of the Assessment
The emphasis is on credibility, insight, accountability, and clear, offence-specific reporting, rather than generic driver training or box-ticking exercises.
1. Classroom or Online Session (90 minutes)
A facilitated, offence-focused session examining:
✓ Decision-making at the time of the offence and contributory factors
✓ Speed, fatigue, distraction, impairment, and mobile phone use
✓ Risk perception and the normalisation of unsafe driving behaviours
✓ Legal, personal, and wider consequences of the offence
✓ Practical strategies to prevent reoffending
2. On-Road Driver Risk Assessment (60–90 Mins)
A one-to-one, developmental assessment conducted in the area where the offence occurred, examining:
✓ Observation, anticipation, and hazard awareness
✓ Speed management, positioning, and judgement at known risk points
✓ Compliance with road traffic law in live driving conditions
✓ Attitude, insight, accountability, and overall risk awareness
The offence-location assessment allows specific decision points, road features, and environmental risks relevant to the case to be directly explored.
3. Comprehensive Written Report (Included)
On completion, a detailed written report is provided outlining:
✓ Engagement and learning from the classroom session
✓ Findings from the on-road assessment
✓ Identified risk factors and protective strengths
✓ Clear, proportionate recommendations to reduce future risk
✓ Confirmation of attendance and completion
The report is explicitly suitable for court, solicitor, probation, employer, and governance purposes.
